2.Forming of Mould around the Wax

forming of wax clay covered

Rod channel- exit for the wax and entrance for molten metal

Uniform paste of clay mixture

Each hollow wax sculpture is painted with the mixture of soft clay and dung and is kept hanging for air dry. The sculpture is covered with the paste for 2 to 3 times. The paste makes a wonderful mould capturing minute details with wax cast. This is a vital step for casting so the paste should be checked carefully to make uniform layer all over the wax cast. Next step is to reinforce the covering. The semi-solid clay is intermingled with rice husk. Then the cast is covered with the paste uniformly and kept outside the door for sun dry. The process is repeated for 2to 3 times. The mould is ready to bear molten metal.

They are established by my late grand father Hira Man Shakya on auspicious 5 th birth day of his son Singh Raj Shakya. Later the son was died of diarrhoea.  (Craft owner)
